After her conversation with Izaya at the end of Episode 17 (Everything Changes)Age:
25~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Nothing magical. However, she has a very shrew mind, particularly when it comes to science, and has done research into things most people would shy away from with good reason. How would they use their abilities?:
To further her position on board, and if she manages to piss off Izaya a little in the process so much the better.Appearance:
Namie has long brown hair, brown eyes and a pale, pointed face. She is of average height and has a trim if curvy figure. Her usual outfit consits of a green and teal turtleneck, a red skirt and black stockings, more often without than with her lab coat these days.Background/Personality:
Namie grew up with very little attention from her parents - her father, in particular, was too busy running the family's pharmaceutical company into the ground to be at home much. As a result, Namie was often left in the care of her uncle who would leave her to her own devices while he admired his treasured possession within his study - the head of the dullahan
Celty Sturluson. Namie's uncle had received the head from Shingen Kishitani, a doctor who used a special blade to sever the link between Celty's head and body, knowing that she would be drawn to search for it. All Namie knew, however, was that it was a head far prettier than the numerous dolls her uncle bought for her, dolls that she had never particularly cared for especially as it seemed he bought them based on his own preferences, not hers.
For a time, Namie kept her knowledge of the head to herself. However, some years after her own birth, her parents decided to bring a second child into the world, a son who they named Seiji. Having a second child made them no more of a presence in said children's lives and so Namie and Seiji often only had each other to talk to. As a result, the pair became extremely close and Namie felt a strong love for her brother. She therefore decided to show Seiji their uncle's secret, sneaking him into the study to show him the head in a jar. This, she would come to regard as her ultimate regret. As soon as Seiji laid eyes on Celty's head, he was transfixed and he would come to sneak into the study more often, simply to sit and stare at it. Namie became incredibly jealous of the attention he paid to it, her feelings shifting from sibling affection to something much more possessive and incestuous. She didn't want to share her brother with anyone, least of all with some stupid weird head.
Little else is known of Namie's childhood, but she eventually grew up to become Chief of Yagiri Pharmaceuticals - a curse as much as a blessing, given the financial difficulties she was forced to contend with after her father's reign. Her feelings of love for her brother hadn't faded one bit, nor had his obsession with Celty's head or her hatred of that same behaviour. Ultimately she decided the only way to change things was for her to steal the head from her uncle's study and secret it within the pharmacy complex, somewhere only she could access.
In the meantime, she continued in the somewhat shady practices of her family's company. She paid so-called Manhunters to hunt down those within the city of Ikebukuro who wouldn't be missed and to kidnap them, bringing them to an arranged spot for collection. The implication is that those kidnapped were intended to be used in unknown experiments; it's also strongly implied that she got at least some of the information on viable targets from information broker Izaya Orihara, with whom she has always had a civil if terse relationship. She also has had dealings with Shingen's son Shinra, who often performs plastic surgery and other medical procedures for the company. Shinra is aware that Namie has Celty's head but keeps that secret, as well as the other shadier aspects of the company, though more for his own selfish reasons than for any perceived loyalty to the Yagami family.
At some point, someone - Seiji, quite obviously - stole Namie's ID card and used it to recover Celty's head. Before she could really follow up on that knowledge, as infuriated as it made her, she received a phone call from her brother asking for her help. Delighted by the knowledge that Seiji was depending on her, Namie made her way home where she discovered that he had attacked Mika Harima, a stalker girl who was obsessed with him. She comforted her brother and promised that she would take care of things - both Mika and Celty. She leaves giving her brother the impression that she will perform surgery to attach Celty's head to Mika's body; however, Mika hadn't actually died and Namie forcefully persuaded her to receive surgery that would make her look like Celty, including the creation of a scar around her neck so that it would look like her head had been stitched on. This would allow Namie to make her brother happy, appease his stalker and most importantly brought Celty's head back into her possession.
Unfortunately, her plan backfired somewhat as Seiji, having skipped out on school to try and track down his lost love, found "Celty" and persuaded her to run away with him. It later turned out that this had been instigated by Izaya, who played on their paranoia to keep them on the run. Initially, Namie didn't notice as she was still able to keep in touch with Seiji by phone; however, after Mika destroys Seiji's phone and renders him uncontactable, Namie sent her employees out to find them. When that didn't work she turned to Izaya, who knows about her feelings for her brother but ultimately chose to help her. He also mentioned a potential take-over of Yagiri Pharmaceuticals, which posed a threat to Namie's current position as chief.
Seiji and Mika were eventually tracked down but Mika disappeared with Mikado Ryūgamine, a newcomer to Ikebukuro who ran into her while she was escaping from Celty - Celty saw Mika pass, recognised what she thought was her head and gave chase to try and talk to her. With Seiji safely back where she - or at least her men - could keep an eye on him, Namie set down the order to find Mika and Mikado and to bring them to her, whatever it took. This culminated in Mikado contacting her, saying that he was prepared to trade Mika. When Namie arrived at the meeting point, her men situated within the crowd, Mikado instead confronts her and accuses her of being a stalker before working out the truth of her feelings for Seiji. He then sent out a message to all members of the mysterious Dollars gang - a group which he founded and persuaded to act as a force for good within the city. With so many in the city belonging to this mysterious organisation, Namie and her men were thwarted, not through violence but by the mere threat of the people Mikado had on his side.
With the rumoured take over of the company becoming reality and with Celty's head now in Izaya's possession - likely in part as a form of payment, though also potentially because of his theory on how to reawaken said head - Namie eventually ended up working as Izaya's secretary. For a time she remained under the radar, although Izaya would often discuss things with her and she became involved in the discussion when Shingen returned to Ikebukuro to do further study on Celty, likely targeted in part because of Shingen's previous dealings with her uncle as well as her involvement with Izaya.
Ultimately, Namie is a stern, driven young woman who is not afraid to take morally dubious and even outright abhorrent action if it will further her aims. She rarely displays passion unless where it relates to her brother and looks at everything with a logical mind - which Izaya points out as a reason for her never having considered much of Celty's connections to mythology. That said, she is intelligent and insightful, even able to surprise Izaya at times by reading him more clearly than most. While she has been shown to anger when her patience is tested, for the most part she keeps a cool or at least stoic head under confrontation. She makes her decisions on who to trust carefully, or at least on who to seek assistance from - to say she trusts Izaya would be a stretch. Why should that character be in this game:

Well isn't this quite the impressive set-up? I don't for a second believe any of it to be true, but I suppose I can applaud the creativity behind it all. I expect you're not too open to criticism, Orihara-san, but you lost plausibility with that ridiculous story you fed to your actors with regard to how our world ended. And there's no use in denying it - you're the only one I know who could glean any entertainment from such a set-up.
Oh, and don't bother trying to pretend to be one of the other supposed prisoners of this supposed ship when you respond. I'm not sure where you gleaned their names from and I'm sure I don't want to know, but I haven't the time or patience for your games right now.3rd person sample:
Namie stood and stared into the once-secured area, the area that only she had been able to access until her brother had stolen her ID and broken in. By rights, actions that should have seen him get in some serious trouble except that Namie would see the whole world in hell before she allowed Seiji to be taken from her. The head that had once resided in this closed-off area rested there once again now, but she knew it was at best a temporary solution. Even with that foolish stalker girl as a decoy, she couldn't trust that Seiji wouldn't come back to make sure the head was gone - where obsession was involved, there was no such thing as too careful. After all, she couldn't be entirely sure that the girl wouldn't screw up and let on about the deception - hers, after all, was a selfish love, one which didn't hold Seiji's best interests at heart.
Not like Namie's did.
The other matter, of course, was the takeover. If the other company were to find out what lurked within the building, there would be no guarantee that they wouldn't alert the authorities. And that would be disastrous, not just for her but for the entire network she had woven to ensure that the head was kept from those who would most want it. So she had no choice - she would have to entrust the object to another, one who she was loath to trust at all except that he was the only one she felt was able to keep it safe if only because it allowed him quite the bargaining chip over more than one person.
She never did enjoy dealing with Izaya Orihara. But always she did what she had to do, and this time was no different.Questions?:
